We are a foundation that represents millions of people around the world affected by retinal diseases. But why do we do it? Because we know what it is to experience one of them first hand. Retinitis pigmentosa struck our president of the foundation, Javier Tenza. After receiving a diagnosis, visiting many doctors and finding out about the prognosis of this disease, he realized that, as it is a rare disease, it did not have any type of treatment or cure. "It is very hard to have to accept a reality of darkness that stalks you," says Javier, visibly moved. And what do our institutions do to help us? They try to improve our quality of life. They teach us to live with a new reality to which we must adapt no matter what. But is it what we really need? No, a sick person wants a cure, what's more, he deserves a cure. What do we do
Our main objective is to raise funds to create a retinal disease research center in order to achieve, as our own slogan says: "a world with light for all". We are leading a research project that will achieve our dreams. Another of our objectives, but no less important, is the early detection of this type of disease in our little ones, through awareness campaigns and information about it. “My biggest fear is not going blind, it is that my children may suffer from my disease tomorrow”, Javier emphasizes. Well, tomorrow is today. If no one else does, do it yourself! In order to achieve our goals we need your help, yours, those you know. Any kind of help, no matter how small, is a grain of sand. How to collaborate
We need your help to carry out our projects. Symptoms of retinal diseases
Night blindness
Poor adaptation to the dark or loss of vision in dimly lit places. As its name suggests, it generates total blindness in low light situations, preventing the affected person from fully developing.
Reduced field of vision
Loss of vision from the peripheral (lateral) area to the central area of the eye, giving rise to what is known as tunnel vision. The affected person loses the ability to discover things in their environment since they would only see where they focus.
loss of visual acuity
Inability of the eye to recognize the shape of objects and identify the images that arrive through the optic nerve to our brain. It greatly incapacitates the affected person, in some cases it is possible to see lights or shadows
Photopsias
glares. Sensation of seeing lights or flashes without external light stimuli, so they can be perceived even with closed eyes.
